But the story gets even cooler. In 1899, the Marmon family bought the building to manufacture cars. Fast forward to 1911, and the Marmon Wasp won the very first motorized Indianapolis 500 race! After an intense three year renovation project that included refinishing the original floors, replacing windows, and adding modern fixtures, the building was brought back to life. However, when the 2008 economic downturn caused many of his commercial tenants to leave, Rocky had a brilliant realization. Walking the empty halls one evening, he envisioned lofty industrial ballrooms and chic bridal suites. He decided to become his own best tenant, adopting a version of the original name to keep the rich history alive. Almost 25 years later, Rocky’s dream has been fully realized. Now an official Historical Landmark recognized by the State of Indiana, it is a premier destination for couples ready to tie the knot.
