The Real Deal in Affton: Why Innovet Electric is the “No-Nonsense” Neighbor You Need to Know

In a world of flashy marketing and long-winded sales pitches, finding a local pro who just wants to do the job right can feel like finding a needle in a haystack.

Meet Charles McCarty, the owner of Innovet Inc. based right here in Affton, Missouri.

If you ask Charles about Affton, he won’t give you a poetic description of the scenery. He’ll tell you, simply, “It’s just a suburb.” And that is exactly the kind of unpretentious, straightforward energy he brings to his electrical work. He’s not here to fluff things up; he’s here to make sure your lights turn on and your house doesn’t burn down.

A Lifetime of Local Power

Charles isn’t new to the block. He has lived in this area for a lifetime and has been running Innovet in the St. Louis area since 1996. That’s nearly 30 years of navigating our local crawl spaces, attics, and breaker boxes.

But the discipline he brings to the job goes back even further than that. Innovet is a Certified Combat Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business. Charles is a Vietnam War veteran, and that military background is the backbone of his company.

When you hire a vet, you generally expect discipline, precision, and safety. With Innovet, that’s exactly what you get. In fact, back in 2015, the Small Business Administration named them the Veteran Business of the Year. That’s not a participation trophy; that’s a testament to decades of hard work.

“Honest.” (Period.)

We asked Charles a simple question: If someone left you a 5-star review, what is the one thing you’d want them to mention?

He didn’t say “cheap prices” or “fastest van.” He said one word: “Honest.”

That is the Innovet secret sauce. Electrical work can be scary for homeowners. We don’t know what those wires do, and we definitely don’t know if we’re being upcharged for a “flux capacitor” we don’t need. Innovet prides itself on integrity. They will tell you what you need, what you don’t, and then they will get to work.

More Than Just Changing Lightbulbs

While they have been keeping the lights on for decades, Innovet handles the heavy lifting, too. They are full-service, meaning they handle the stuff that makes modern life livable (and safe):

  • Generators: Because St. Louis weather loves to throw us a curveball, they install whole-house generators so you aren’t left in the dark.

  • Pools & Hot Tubs: Water and electricity don’t mix—unless you have a pro like Charles wiring it up so you can relax safely.

  • Security: They install CCTV and security cameras to keep local businesses and homes secure.

  • The Big Fixes: Panel upgrades, commercial wiring, and bringing older homes up to code.

A Word to the Wise

When we asked Charles what he wishes customers knew about the electrical industry, he gave us a piece of advice that every homeowner should tape to their fridge:

“Be careful who you hire.”

It sounds simple, but in an industry where a mistake can be dangerous, it’s vital. Don’t just hire the guy with the lowest bid and a pair of pliers. Hire the licensed, bonded, insured veteran who has been doing this since the 90s.

The Bottom Line

If you are in Affton or the surrounding St. Louis area and you need power, don’t overcomplicate it. Call the guy who has been here his whole life, served his country, and just wants to give you an honest day’s work.

The crew at Innovet had been over at my place for smaller electrical fixes the last few years and done great work. So when I needed to replaced my AC and my entire electric panel I went directly to these guys. Great work at the right price. I didn’t get sold a bunch of potential upgrades like many places try to offer to increase the price.
